I have a 4 year old ST-40 Raymarine Bidata on the boat. Until recently I had not been using the knotmeter and had the transducer out of the hull. Recently I decided to install it. All went easy. Thought I had it pointed the wrong way at first but checked and found it was installed properly afterall.

The temp and depth transducer had been working well until then. The temp/depth transducer is fixed in the hull unlike the knotmeter and wheel which is to be pulled and kept clean.

After a few weeks of trying to get the knotmeter to register with no luck---- the depth reading quit. After cylcling through the calibration and set up instructions over and over and after rubbing the bottem clean with a towel to assure no fouling-- well we have all but given up. Now all have is a temp reading showing on the display. Power is fine.

I have pulled the display unit off the bulkhead and see no loose wiring. This one has me baffled-!!!!

The manual offers almost no help on troubleshooting. I've searched all through the internet for help on troubleshooting. I did locate the Raymarine factory shop address. I was hoping for an easier troubleshoot on the boat rather than an expensive bench check in the factory for the display head.

I have no ide if the problem is in the trnsducers or the display-- the transducers and head visually appear finelook fine?? And getting the transducers out to ship to the factory (especially the depth transducer) would be a nightmere.

Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions before shipping the display off for an expensive bench job?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Just cut and paste your post at Raymarine http://raymarine.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/raymarine.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php They should be able to help.

Make sure your batteries are fully charged. I had problems with erroneous depth readings and no knot meter, which turned out my batter was low.

Joe, how difficult is the display unit to remove? I have a new ST40 ready to install, we can swap your display unit with my new one, if that's possible, to troubleshoot that part. I should be at the boat this week and weekend. Send me your number again in case I can't find it and we'll see what we can do.
