I am looking at a used mooring, and the seller has described it as a 250-300 lb cement mushroom mooring. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? All I've found on the web for cement moorings suggests that the weight you normally see is way greater than that, especially since cement has enough boyancy that it is effectively half as heavy in the water. I have a Catalina 25, and a 250 lb mushroom would be fine, but a mushroom cement??? I figure that this is the best place for unusual nautical questions! Thanks,

Mort Hoffman

For years I used four 60 pound cement blocks linked with chain. The boat didn't budge even in the worst of weather. If you have the option, use a long length of chain between the anchor and your mooring ball, and a long pennant. I currently use 40 feet of chain and a 20 foot pennant in 18 feet of water.
