I've always been told that the best way to learn to sail is on a small boat - the smaller, the better. With that in mind, I went in search of a small boat for my new bride / budding sailor to practice on.
I found one - the Catalina .6 (yes, that's 0.6 feet LOA)! I always thought the smallest Catalina was the 14.2, but I was wrong. The C.6 will be a great demo unit for concepts in her sailing textbook.
After I discovered the C.6 in a local hobby shop, I found that Catalina Direct has – yes – an even SMALLER Catalina – the C.4!

I had a Catalina 13 (similar to the Laser) which went like smoke! Rigged exactly like the Laser, most of the running gear is interchangeable. First came out as a Capri 13 and later renamed Catalina 13. I sold it to a college lad when the Catalina 25 bug hit me again (this is our third Catalina 25). Catalina 13 is a really fun boat, but my first mate says I have to start acting my age (71).

I'm looking for a little board-boat like that (or a Beetle Cat) right now. That's real sailing! When you start acting your age, you suddenly become your age!
If you really want to start acting your age, buy a 44' Nauticat, pick up a 30 year old babe, and sail around the world. What a great ending. Cheers...don't forget the blue pills!

Hmmm... Good point. There are two seats in the cockpit, but they're pretty compact. In fact, the whole thing's starting to remind me of my West Wight Potter 19 - and the size of that boat was what got Connie to thinking about a bigger boat to begin with!
