Anyone wanting to cruise across the Gulfstream I would recommend that you go with a flotilla of two or more. Then if there are any issues you have a much better chance of arriving safely. Even if you split up after you get there. You should be able to raise someone on the VHF willing to stay close. When my brothers and I sailed Chick-a-pea over to the Bahamas it was nothing to it. But if something happened there were three others crossing with us. If I was to hit a derelict container and holed my hull I would hope someone was close by.
