Hi All, well I finally sailed my boat today for the first time. What a great day I had. I got to the boat at about 10, motored out into Lk St. Clair, and hoisted the sails. It was a totally wonderful and UNEVENTFUL day. I sailed out for about an hour and sailed back in. Had the wind at my side both ways. The only weird thing was a strainge humming sound that I finally figured out was the cable to the swing keel. So after all the hard work and long hours, it paid off. What a joy it is to sail. I also want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone on this forum. Without all your help, advice, and pacintes, I would not have made it this far. SO THANK YOU!!!!! Cheers.
Glad to hear all went well, Dennis. What a great suummer it has been, and hope you have many more "uneventful" trips. Don't forget to keep your US Boat membership card handy.
I'm glad to hear you finally had some fun on your boat. Its a good thing you went out this morning because this whole area is under a severe thunderstorm watch. Wouldn't want another story for Latt's and Att's.
Hi Don, actually, when I saw the black bottomed clouds with the bright white puffy tops, I thought, "this could be fun", then remembered the last trip and headed for the barn. I will be back out tomorrow, weather permitting. Cheers.
Hi Tom, it works great. I have it right next to the chartplotter so I have a very good idea of where I am going. I don't know WHAT I am doing, but I know where I am. Cheers.

Hi Frank, I was going to get the boat going and slack it just enough to stop the hum then tape that spot on the cable. Tomorrow I am mounting the deck organizer and clutch you sent me. I will post pics. Cheers.
I'll do that Frank. The bow is taped up for the time being. I am making a plate for underneath next week and will bolt that up just to give the life lines strength. This might sound funny, but after my first sail, I feel like I have a stonger relationship will her....a boat! I hope my wife does not find out :>)
Speaking of keel cables, if the seaweed blooms in Lake St. Clair are anything like we have just down the river in Lake Erie, then you should be extra careful around them so your keel cable doesn't collect a nice, big ol' ball of seaweed. On more than a few occasions with my old swinger, I had to don a mask and swim under the boat to clear the cable. One of the first times this occurred I was sailing in some decent wind, but was going really sloooow. Initially, this sailing newbie couldn't figure out what was going on until I glanced over the cockpit side a saw some seaweed staying with me as I sailed. After dousing sails, I jumped in the water and discovered a seaweed ball around my keel cable that must have been 3-4 feet in diameter. After that, I paid extra attention to the dark patches on and just below the surface of the water.
Additionally, if you ever have problems raising the keel the last few feet or so, you just might have seaweed on the cable.
Hi Don, thanks for the tip. I know in the last few years, the seaweed has been extremly heavy due to all the lawn fertilizer runoff. I'll keep my eye out. Cheers.

Hi Dave, right when I got the boat secured, it started to downpour, the winds had kicked up to ???but the flags were straightout. I did find where I have all my leeks below. Cheers.
