Looking for info on installing a cabin top traveler on a pop top. Considered securing the actual pop top with stronger bolts and installing the traveler ahead of the cabin opening. Any thoughts?

Hi Dennis,

Unless you're talking about permanently fastening the pop top to the cabin top with SS bolts, the Bon Bon method is lots better. The pop top was never designed with the kind of loading a traveler will impart in mind.

Dennis,
If I interpret your description correctly, I think the traveler bar would be too far forward, causing you too lose some ability to manipulate sail shape.
Guess it's function verses convenience . . .

If you just want to get the mainsheet off the transom, I think a better set-up has just two stand-up blocks on aft corners of the cabin top and no travler bar. You lose a little control in shaping the mainsail (maybe) but you attach further back on the boom (requiring less mechanical advantage), you don't interfere with the poptop at all, and it's much cheaper. Cleaner looking too.

How about mounting both the traveller and adjustable backstay to a heavy duty stainless steel arch/stern pulpit combo. This would get the mainsheet and backstay out of the cockpit and also make room for a bimini.

...and voila! You've created a Hunter! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
