What a great-looking photo! Who took the shot for you? As I'm sure you've found out by now, it's hard to get those shots of you and your boat out sailing.
Don Lucier (posted above) often takes photos of his dock neighbors when they're out sailing, then he puts the photos in a zip-lock bag and puts them on their boat ... 'nice touch, and something his new neighbors appreciate, I'm sure.
BTW Andy ... I don't know much about flag etiquette, but I've heard that the transom is the "place of honor" ... you can't go wrong flying the "ensign" or "Old Glory" back there. I've got mine mounted in the center of the transom (I have wheel steering, so the mount doesn't interfere with the tiller). I really like the way Scott's flag looks in his photo ... it's like the icing on the cake!
Proper location is amidships, or to starboard for a stern ensign. I considered a teak stern staff earlier this summer, but am now thinking of rigging the backstay for an ensign. I am told that this is acceptable, analagous to the traditional way of flying the ensign from the mainsail leech, about 2/3rds of the way up from the boom.
Has anyone done this? It seems like a lot of trouble, but a big ensign (at least 1" on the fly for every foot of boat length) really looks good, and a stern staff may just be too much clutter on the transom of a 250.

Good tip, Buzz!
Last weekend I took about 80 shots of 6 different sailboats. I usually drop the pictures in boats anonymously, but when these people mention the pictures to others, those who know me tell them it was probably Don. Nice way to meet new sailors.
There is nothing like getting pictures on the water of your own boat in action. I have many, many pictures from others who have returned the favor. When on the water, take a camera and have it at the ready...You'll make someone's day!
Thanks for the good comments....Btw, if you look close enough, I'm sitting and my 12 year old son, standing, is driving. He races OPTI's and, well, is a much better driver than I am. I just get to pull the strings now! The flag is just off center to starbord, and mounted on the rail. Flag flys all day everyday we are on the boat!
