Seeking experience, advice, info regarding their use aboard boats. Technical aspects such as amps drawn, 12v vs. 110 with inverter, alternators, solar etc....All will be appreciated.
Actually what started me thinking about this was an "infomercial" I saw today about a device that allows you to sautee, brown, cook eggs etc.... just like a frying pan.... but for use with a microwave..
I guess a small micro wave would work at the dock. I dont think most boats are set up with a DC system large enough to power an inverter big enough to run a microwave. I have a 1000 watt Honda generator that I have had on the boat a few times. You could also power a bread maker or crock pot, toaster oven, pop corn poper ??? I guess if you can think of it there might be a way to power it.
We have a microwave for use at the dock and use a grill while at anchor, although, being on the Lake Erie, we are rarely at anchor. I don't know all the technical numbers, but even with an inverter on a 12 volt you wouldn't have much juice for more than a very short blast of the microwave.
