Does a loose footed main put additional stress on the mainsail track slugs? One of my slugs at the luff end of a batten broke, but only after I loose footed my main. Thanks.
Frank, Here's an article on reefing from Pineapple Sails When reading this article keep in mind one of your "Luff Sliders" broke. And the C250 has a "Single-Line Reefing System". I had to read this article 3 times but it makes sense. Now, I make sure the reef tack is tight before the reef clew is tight. Russ (#793)
When Catalina discontinues a practice, it is likely because the practice is costing them and owners. From '97 to '01 or so, Catalina routed the jiffy reef line to the cockpit on the WK model but then discontinued doing so.
The reason, likely either popping of sail slugs or worse, damage to the sail from use of the winch for reefing.
Owners of course can route it there, but on their repair nickle for sail repairs.
If the winch must be used.... be sensitive to the strain on the line and if too great... sort out the resistance.
