Well we got out on the boat on Saturday evening. After a quick dinner at the club. My mom and a friend from the club agreed to go out with me and my 5 year old son Dylan. Left the slip and hoisted the sails for a fantastic evening sail. Sailed around as the sun set, which was spectacular, I haven't night sailed in many years. Everything worked fine. You gotta love McLube. I spray any moving or sliding point before mast raising.
After docking I got Dylan in bed and did some boat keeping and organizing to knock out a few projects. Like hooking up the battery and the bug screens. Oh by the way the quick fix was SOOO simple. Standard screen door fiber glass screen about 3'wide by 6' tall. I cut enough to go from the hatch slide to the cockpit floor. Wrapped it around the bottom hatch board and slid it into place, left the middle one out and wrapped the top board and slid it into place. It made a perfect fit and a window where the middle board would be. The remaining material was placed over the front hatch with a box fan on it and the 83 degree evening was not so bad and the zillions of bugs could only look in.
I ran a line from the cockpit through the starboard stanchons to a mini block on the bow and onto the head of the jib for a jib down haul. It worked great when I had to drop the jib. Dylan and I ate some breakfast on the boat and went out with just the 2 of us Sunday morning in winds about 8 to 10. VERY NICE BUT VERY HOT. I think we both were over cooked so we called it an early day and went home to swim.

Well done. Night sailing rocks, putzing around on the boat rocks, and having an adventure with your son way more than rocks. Keep going to the boat. We have a saying; you can't sail if you are not at the lake.
I agree, night sailing is a very thrilling experience with your senses becoming more aware of your surroundings. Sunsets, twilight, stars, moonlight, and if your are out in open water a few miles it is almost like you are in the middle of the ocean. Love it!
