Why don't you like rings for keepers in the shroud pins.
These are all we have ever used on other boats I have sailed. We secure them with several wraps of rigging tape. The pins I have looked at are no thicker than the rings combined thickness and isn't most of the load on the pin? If you guys feel pins are more appropriate I will change out the rings I used as that was all I had at the time.
Thanks,

All of the load is on the pin, none should be on the ring. I am on your side - everything I've been on from a Bennetau 42.7 through a j22 has used rings
It would seem I stand alone on this pontification... the purpose of the ring is easy in, easy out, by definition that is risky on critical rigging. If properly taped they should be ok. I am surprised more of you don't fell the way I do. I obviously must yield to the collective wisdom.
Its easy in easy out if you have opposeable (sp) thumbs. If properly applied I think they have less chance of coming out than a pin. You do need to have a good quality ring that doubles over on itself.
If anyone is using the rings on the open style turnbuckles, be sure to go through the screw and one side of the turnbuckle. Not just the screw alone.
I replaced a few of the bent pins, sort of a modified safety pin, with rings as the pins looked like a jib sheet could open them and pull them out. At any rate rigging tape is A MUST for these rigging points protecting feet, sails and rings. A word on rigging tape, use the self amalgamting tape with no adhesive it is very clean and is easily removed. To remove it just cut the tape across the wraps and it pulls off cleanly.
