I found a product that works like magic ... maybe you can use it to repair the flapper. It is called "QuickSteel" ... I bought it at Wal-Mart.
I am really impressed with this stuff, because it has worked every time I've used it. It is easy to use, it can be drilled, tapped, sanded, painted, or whatever, and it'll even cure underwater. Normal curing time is 15 minutes, and it is hard as a rock after it sets up.
Even if it doesn't repair your flapper, it's a great item to keep in your boat's tool kit ... it has a shelf life of 3 years.
