We tore our first sail last night in a bad storm that blew threw the Choctawhatchee Bay area. It came up on us so fast that before we could drop and stow all the sails our main had a 6 foot rip from the lowest baton threw the reef points. Were going to have it repaired by a local sail shop but we would like to keep it as a backup and go ahead and by a new one. Anybody know where we can get a good main for cheap? Also looking for a 135 or 150 furling jib. Thanks for the feedback.

There are numerous sources on line for used sails. Bacon Sails in Annapolis is one. Also Sails.com. J-24 mains fit the boat pretty well and seem to be plentiful. Jibs are tuffer. Good luck!!

Cheap is relative. An old sail that came with the boat that sets ok but is tired is a good cheap sail and is worth about $100. A $400 dollar used sail that sets the same is a rip off. A new $800 sail with full battens and a loose foot is such a pleasure and so effective that it is a good deal. cruisingdirect.com and catalinadirect.com are the two best deals I know of on new sails. Many of us buy custom sails from ullmanventura.com because they make most of the factory sails for Catalina and know our boats so well. Spend your money on something that will make you glad you spent it well.

If you were to hoist a tape measure with a halyard, it would be within inches of 30' on the tall and 28' on the standard

If when you tack the boom hits your head - it's a tall rig!

Unless you are over 6 feet or like to stand when trimming...

I've got a 150 roller furler genoa I'm willing to sell. It's got a nice shape to it. When I broke my mast (and roller furler) I decided to go to hank-on sails.

Drop me an email off-line.
