The bulkhead just unscrews, but two of the screws were shorter than the rest. Not sure why, but to be safe I marked the holes they came out of. You also have to remove the "fiddle" that runs along the port side of the aft berth, but it was also very easy. The hard part was/is getting all the fiberglass dust out of my back after crawling back into the battery compartment.
BTW, there is a lot of wasted space behind that bulkhead. I wonder if any of it could be used for storage. Hmmm, maybe another project looms.
you are right about there being alot of space back there. we just had shore power, inverter, and all the switches installed back there. the funny thing is, since we are not electrical savy, we hired someone from the boatyard to do this work. we went into the boat to check on his progress and didn't se the guy.HE WAS ALL THE WAY INSIDE THE BULKHEAD! only he didnt take the panel out, HE CRAWLED IN THE DOORWAY!!

I had made that observation also. It is a shame Catalina made the space so inaccessible with the battery so close to the opening. I was thinking of installing a teak louvered prefab door through the bulkhead port, stbd., or both, of the existing access. The list is long and I am not sure that will happen soon.
thanks for the great pix. i'm right behind you on this. (you have a wb, i assume?) also, where would i put the plug if i don't have a cockpit coaming? what is the plug for?
The plug is where you have to plug in the autotiller. It gets power there, and if you add it, it will also get nav data from your GPS. It is supposed to be a watertight plug so you should be able to install it anywhere near the autotiller. I liked the idea of having it slightly sheltered in the coaming compartment, though.
