Well I went a bought the Lorance H2O C. I found it at the GPS store for 229.99 Am starting to learn how to use it. Now I need a mount for the cockpit any suggestions.
I would love to hear your "review" of the handheld! Do you like it? My understanding is that you need to purchase a separate marine card for proper marine use?
I use a RAM mount... adjusts a zillion different ways, sturdy and easy to remove when not in use. You can get a permanant mount (plate W/screws) or a stanchion clamp style. Good stuff.
I saw a white plastic mount with two bins (cell and GPS maybe) at Walmart that could easily be mounted on the exterior of the cockpit somewhere (maybe beneath the stock instruments).
Not as elegant as teak, but cheap and sturdy just the same.
I just used a piece of Velcro, the H2Oc has different cards for the unit, all of the coast East and West as well as the Great Lakes are on one card for 99.00 you can download most of the interior lakes for free from their website. The free maps are far better than the ones that you have to buy. I really like our unit, Its color, and the screen is big enough for me to see. I have had some issues about the base map not showing Highways on it, and there is no street levels displayed unless you buy another program, but it has been quite a while since I have driven our boat on any street.
