We've added a number of different web enhancements of late.
There are one or two more planned but we can get to that at a later date.
You'll find an Amazon Store now on your menu bar to the left. All of the items here are handled by Amazon - All we do is provide the webspace. Amazon allows us to filter the material going into the store so that it is related to sailing. In some cases this filtering is phenomenal; in others not so great. The featured items are directly chosen by us and I am hoping to keep them relevant to forum posts and recommendations by other members. The association gets about 4% of the sale.
Ebay - These searches are pulled directly out of ebay and incorporated into our site. They are timely and pull the first x number of items sorted by auction end date. Bidding on, and winning these items brings 2 to 7% of Ebay's profit to us.
The last item is the google search engine. This engine gets better as time passes. It currently will search our entire site. In return for its use, google will throw a couple of ads at the top of the search results. These ads will be directly related to sailing or the content of what you are searching. We do make a few pennies if you purchase something from one of these ads, but in general, the search engine is the benefit we obtain. As time passes, this engine will improve and assist in searching our archives, something the forum engine just hasn't been able to do.
Also located on the links page is a new battery company that carries, amongs other things, marine and RV batteries of various makes and models.
In the past 5 months, the association has brought in about 130 dollars with all of these programs. We hope to bring some of that back to you in the way of new programs for you the owner. We also use these to keep the association dues at a reasonable level.
What can you do: Please Provide your feedback on any of these companies or programs. Please encourage other members to check out their prices first. Please shop with them if you do your shopping online.
Christmas is approaching and We are hoping to bring a few more peanuts our way going into the new year.
Great job Duane. I am glad to see the eBay link on the left as I have baught a couple items this summer using the eBay link on my Favorites, then only afterwards do I remember that I should have gone through the links page. Cheers.
Hey Dennis, Is there still a way for the association to get some kind of kickback if I sell something on ebay? I seem to remember a post awhile back where you mentioned that or were involved in the conversation. Thanks Gene
You've relentlessly worked your tail off on these upgrades, and I really appreciate your hard work. These improvements are a big benefit to all of us, and the extra money for our Association is the icing on the cake.
Neat feature ! Very convenient being a link on the left of the forum screen and all related to sailing. I'll have to peruse the listings see what I am interested in.
Well, I just listed a few things on ebay after clicking on the link in the LINK section. Including some marine speakers, not quite 3K worth like Dennis but little things do add up. Hopefully I did it correctly and if I didn’t please let me know. Also do you happen to know if ebay have anything you can link through to get credit for the association if you use one of the bulk listing programs like Turbo Lister? Thanks Gene
Hey Duane, Just went to list some stuff on ebay by going through the association link and it isn't there. Does the association still get a kick back or did they do away with that?
Hey Gene, if you click on eBay Searches, then at the top of that page, you will see click on eBay. I think that is the way to get there for listing. Cheers.
I may be missing something here but it doesn't show up on my computer. I have clicked on the big logo before but it no longer shows up on the links page. I have tried to pull it up using two different browsers(mozilla & Internet explorer) still no luck. Have you looked at the page then refreshed again? It may just be in your browser cashe and that's why it still shows up for you. Just a guess?
I totally clean my computer once a week so if something happened since last Wednesday, it might still be in my cashe. How about on the links page? Do you see anything there? Cheers. p.s., I just sent you an email.
Duane, I just checked the "Specialized Searches" page, and there is an EBay logo just above the words "Specialized Searches." The logo is about 2" wide by 1" high, and has a button that you can click on to go to EBay. It's a little slow in loading, and you could easily go to that page and scroll down and miss it.
I can see both logos from my work computer using IE6, but at home, using Firefox, neither are showing. Perhaps it's a browser issue or the port it uses is unusual and is being firewall blocked.
The reason some folks might be having problems could be a difference between browsers or even versions of browsers. I notice some subtle differences between IE & Firefox, but the affiliates logo is there in both versions that I'm using. If you want to force a refresh in either browser, hold down the CTRL key & hit F5. This may fix your problem.

I'll say its phenomenal! Did anyone notice this Amazon ad from the other day?
I noticed that one too. The ad populates based on group purchases and page content....and believe it or not some one from our group purchased a pair...don't worry, I can't track down the individual....And with very few exceptions I don't think I'd want to even know.
I'm working on filtering some of that stuff out, but it is a trial and error thing.
