Just back from a trip to Cocoa Beach FL. The plan was to leave home on Friday morning, arrive Cocoa Beach Friday pm, launch and enjoy the weekend sailing in company with Jesse (Sea Treker) around the area.
A major electrical issue with the trailer delayed out departure by several hours (had to rewire the trailer harness, and fix a broken earth connection) we got on the trail more than 3 hours late. Arrival was much later than planed, then our buddy stepped up. We arrived in his area after dark, he did not hesitate to offer us a night under his roof. Jesse and his wife Carmen made us so welcome at such short notice. They put us up in their beautiful home for the night. We enjoyed dinner together and then had a great tour of the area on Saturday and a really great sail on sunday in the cocoa beach towards titusville area. Awesome weekend rescued by awesome friends.
Jesse has a great C25 that he keeps in the water and enjoys sailing around the area as much as we did for the weekend.
We look forward to returning the favor sometime soon. Thanks Jesse, Thanks Carmen. We had a great weekend thanks to you guys!
To clarify, I would think courtesy like that goes beyond just "sailors". Anyone from this, or any other close knit forum would do no less. I for one would welcome any of our Association members who are planning to sail Lake Superior and are near our home in Upper Michigan. Just email me your planning dates and I'll ensure your trip is well worth the effort to come up here.
Al is really a good guy and is offically a "yooper" because he lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (slightly below the artic circle ) What he didn't tell you is that you have to visit during the peak of the summer in order to sail on "soft" water. This year summer came on July 15th at 4:44pm ...and then was gone like a lunar eclipse. Go ahead Al and admit there are times you can't get to your mooring on May 10th because it was still iced in . Seriously its a beautiful wilderness experience with water so clear you can see 20 feet down to the wrench you dropped last summer Ron
Yes, I'll admit it. We have a somewhat short (41/2 to 5 month) but verrrrrry sweet sailing season. John Vining can attest to that as well. He hauled up here two years ago. We showed him a great time, great four day cruise and became good friends as well.
As for Ron, well, he lived up here in God's country for a number of years, was a member and past champion in our yacht club, and probably wishes here were still here. I'm gald to see that my post lured him out of the woodwork to write is 44th post as an Association member. Semper Fi Ron. Go Army!
