It's been awhile since I've seen this discussed so a reminder to change out those fuel line crimped bands...they are junk!

Why do I bring this up now? Yesterday, motor sailing out the channel into Tampa Bay, my fuel line popped off from the motor! Of course this only happens in the narrow part of the channel, when there is some major motorboat traffic, and when the wind is almost on the nose. Anyway, in my attempt to reattach the line I noticed that the connector was freely spinning around...not good. Getting a little anxious, I noticed an opening in the boat traffic, so I came about and trimmed sails for a downwind run. Even though though the connector was spinning, it still seemd attached fairly well to the fuel line. What did I have to lose? I reconnected and after a few pumps of the bulb, the motor started. I thought for sure with the connection that loose that it would be sucking air. Anyway, I let the motor run for a bit and felt very comfortable with my situation. I shut the motor off and continued to sail for 3 more hours. If worse came to worse, I could have sailed back into my slip at the marina.

Needless to say, I took the fuel line home with me, located some adjustable bands and am now ready to head back out today.

I should have taken this forum's advice a long time ago.

Good reminder! Glad to hear your fuel line mishap didn't ruin your day!

I had an older fuel line break right at the outboard quick-connect. Fortunately I discovered it BEFORE leaving the marina. It's difficult to fix when it's attached with a crimped band. I replaced the fuel line and replaced the crimp-on clamps with the screw-adjustable bands.
