Here's one of the deer that regularly roam through our property. We also have an 8 point and a 10 point buck visit.

Hi Derek, great shot. I still go deer hunting every year but generally fall asleep in the blind. I have not shot a deer in ten years....it's all about the party. Cheers.

Too bad... White Tail tenderloin is the most delightful piece of meat you'll ever encounter--I'll take it over prime beef tenderloin any day. (Much of the rest of the deer is what you'd expect--nice-tasting tire rubber.) And after what they do to my very good friend's garden each year, we enjoy every bite!

Hey Dave, I agree. I love it cut into little peices and wrapped in bacon then broiled. Cheers.

You need a northern (or Canadian) deer for good tasting meat. In Texas they are so scrawny that hunters cut out the backstraps and just turn the rest into sausage. In Manitoba we would butcher a deer the same as a cow.
Unfortunately, in this neck of the woods they are protected.

Protected......??In this neck of the woods they just upped the limit and added a chinese throwing star season, a hand to antler season and extended the rest of the seasons. Anything left after the hunting timeframes are over is taken care of by sharpshooting temams from SWAT, National Guard, Army, Olympic teams and other sharpshooter teams. They bring in those guys to fire bolts through their head with mid range rifles.

Of course they've also tried handing out free trojans too

Duane - the reason they are "protected" is that discharging firearms is prohibited in this subdivision (I'm not sure about compound bows though)

They have a bow season for the suburbs in CT--the deer population is out of control there--lotsa bare gardens, bent fenders, and broken windshields. A professional hunter dropped a buck and a doe right where they stood in my friend's yard just a couple of weeks ago--we'll be enjoying them all winter.

We have some great deer in western NY. I bowhunt in a Rochester suburb through a controlled program on private land. It is a weird feeling to park on a city-like street, wearing full camo and seeing the neighbors walking their poodles and giving words of encouragement. My shooting point is 500 feet from any neighbor and we have successfully brought the herd back to a healthy level. Car-deer accidents have gone down and the program was more successful and much cheaper than the contraception program they tried for a bit.

Amen on the backstraps, best cut of meat you can find. The rest takes slow, careful cooking and/or make into burger.

My sailing overlapped with hunting this year, got a late start so no luck yet. It is tough when seasonal passions overlap like that.
