Sounds like you need to do more sailing! As stated above, ordinary cleaners don't seem to affect Poli Glow, but I don't know the components of the ones that do.
The mustache on mine comes off with a brush and some elbow grease (Poliglow'd) I have gotten a lot of comments on how nice our boat looks. People see surprised that its over 20 years old. All I see are the stains on deck left from all the leaves ;(
