Hello,

I am just wondering why the sliding hatch on my 1990 C25 does not have a handle. It would seem that a handle would make it a lot easier to close the hatch.

I am on of the few who can speak to that, I "fixed" mine. I added a traditional one loop teak handle on the outside but on the inside I went to Lowes and bought a thin brushed metal handle that does not steal much opening distance and is unobtrusive.

Frank--I know that you and I are both believers in an oil finish. I wonder what type of oil you are using. I like that color. I am using the Starbrite right now, and like it fine, but am curious.

I use Starbrite on the outside and lemon oil on the interior. I did the handles as one of my first projects, within a week or two after getting the boat. I could not get out! Our boats don't have the gaps at the hatch that older boats have, nowhere to hook a finger! So anyway, I think the hatch boards in this photo were still as I found them when I bought the boat. I did them later, I had run out of Starbrite and bought some wood working teak oil at Home Depot, it was way too dark.

One of my first projects was replacing ALL the teak above deck, so I was able to start fresh. Needs a good oiling now, though, after winter and rain and stuff. Mine had a teak hand loop but I don't know if it came from the factory or was done by a PO. I used it for a template.
