I am thinking about making an additional custom hatch board (bottom board) where I can mount some stereo speakers, a GPS holder & a VHF holder. Has anyone done anything similiar & do you have pictures? I would only use this when sailing. Regards, Christopher

Less likely to kick if a top board. More space to work with if it is a top board.

There should be some stuff in the Tech Tips -

What about splitting the mounting board vertically, and hinging each half just inside the companionway? Design the hinge mount offset so the boards swing about 180* inside against fwd face of bulkhead (and latch there). The possible advantages might include: storage problem solved, leaving the speakers and other equipment wired and having use of them in the cabin when in the stowed position.

I installed shelves with swing out for GPS and engine start with VHF below. Wanted to keep electronics out of weather and sun and this is what evolved. Easy reach for what ever I need for single handing or with crew.

"additional custom hatch board"

I have exactly that setup, an 'extra' bottom board hatchboard. Instead of electronics, it has a big 5" compass mounted in it. Works fine. I can PM you a photo, but there's really not a lot to see. Basically looks like the 'regular' bottom board (maybe a little taller).

>"Easier to see if a top board."

You want to use the bottom board as you can step over it to enter and leave the cockpit... if you put use the top board you have to pull it out and replace it every time you want to go in and out.

If you have wiring, you'll need to loom the wire (organize and restrain it) so you don't trip over it... and use a quick-disconnect plug to make it easy to deploy or stow.
