Hi All,

I have to buy a new prop for my Mercury 9.9 and I don't know which one to buy. I saw a post in the archives saying good things about a 10 X 7.625 4 blade prop. I'm not sure if the 10 is referring to the pitch or diameter.

The prop I have is 3 bladed 9 inch in diameter and I don't know what the pitch is.

Can anyone help me pick the right prop?

Thanks,

SteveG

Steve,
I suppose the 10" refers to the diameter. I can't imagine a 7" prop with a 10" pitch.

Do the numbers on the old prop as compared to the one that you intend to buy.

Steve,

Is your Merc 9.9 a two or four stroke?

How was your overall performance with the 9" prop?

A Merc dealer should be able to determine or look up what prop you had--usually they're a standard size and pitch on smaller outboards. Is it not imprinted somewhere on the hub?

I'm interested in this too. My Mercury 9.9 (2-stroke)
has marked on it's propeller A12 9P.

it seems like I am at 3/4 throttle for a decent boat speed.
I'm hoping that a different pitch propeller would give me the same speed at something like 1/2 throttle with increased power/maneuverability at lower RPM's.

just begining this search and havn't actually measured boat speed yet

let us know what you end up with and how it works out

Ken,

My prop is also marked A12 9P, which appears to be a standard issue 9" diameter 9" pitch propeller for 6-8-9.9-15 HP 2 strokes. The "A12" is in the prop part number so it must relate to the type of outboard it is compatible with.

A while back, I experimented with a 9 3/4"d x 6.5"P on my 8hp Merc 2 stroke, but performance was rather dismal. I put the 9x9 back on.

so should we be looking for a pitch of something like 10?
also, some high thrust props are 4 blade. what pitch would they be?

the mercury link shows three available stock props 6.5,7.5, and 9.

ahh prop mysteries...
at the moment I'm rebuilding the water pump, and will be happy if I have it together and back on the boat by the weekend.
