Does anyone have experience replacing the water pump impeller on their Honda outboard? I have a '98 or '99 15hp model. The owner's manual doesn't give any details and the technical manual costs around $100. There are the cheaper generic tech manuals that cover all Honda outboards, but I've heard they often do not have many details about specific models and may not be that helpful in my situation. I appreciate any tips.

Thanks,

Justin

Justin,
Assuming the 15HP is similar to the 8HP, changing the impeller involves unbolting the lowest portion of the bottom end and disconnecting the shift rod where it connects under the engine hood. You can see the rod if you shift gears and follow the linkage under the hood. You can buy the impeller kit and it comes with new gaskets and the impeller. Why it is out you can check the bearing directly under it. Putting it back together is pretty much the reverse. I have the manual for the 8HP model and can share that with you if you email me. I'm sure it is copyrighted so posting it here is not an option.

Dave,
You can purchase it from:

Harrison's Equipment
2054 North Twin Oaks Valley Road
San Marcos, CA 92069
Ph: 800-752-5883 or (760) 744-5966
Fax: 800-845-8792
info@harrisonsequipment.com

It cost about $50 which is about 3/4 hour labor to have someone work on your engine. I would strongly advise anyone who wants to save a buck on their engine maintenance purchase the shop manual for it, regardless of the make. Even if you don't work on the engine yourself there is a lot of knowledge to be garnered by reading it that cannot be had by reading the users manual.
