I currently sail my 25' 78 swing keel on an inland lake in Ohio. I'd like to move her to the Chesapeake Bay area for a season. Preferrably, but not exclusively, in the Annapolis area. I'm looking for recommendations of marinia's. We can afford to pay twice our current yearly fee of $700 but would have a hard time with anything over that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
RL

RL:
Here's what I found out in the last two weeks. We bought a '82 C25 that was on land at Herrington Harbor North(Deale, MD.) HHN is about 17 NM from Annapolis. It's a VERY short distance from the Bay HHN quoted me an annual slip fee of $1750 for that size boat. It's avery big Marina with pool area....then they told me that they didn't have anything left at this point in the season. Good for them-bad for me! So now we had to drive from Marina to Marina to find somebody with space(and depth.) The first 5 or so place didn't have any space left either, but we finally found a small marina that is right across from HHN. They have restrooms and that's about it for amenities. I figured it would be significantly less than HHN, I was wrong. It was over $2000 for the season. We really wanted to get the boat in the water, so we took it(not knowing where else we could go.) They did at least prorate it for the rest of the season. I'm hoping to find someplace les expensive for next year, but I really think the Annapolis area would be MORE expensive. One big note about the smaller Marina, most of the people docked there have been really nice so far! As a final note, one person told me some of the Marinas have "booths" at the Annapolis Boat Show, that might be a good time to find out info for next year. Hope this ramble is of some help.

We pay about $1500 for a slip (a mooring is less than half of that) at the northern tip of the Bay in Chesapeake City. There's a lot less to do "in town" compared to Annapolis but the sailing / cruising grounds are still great. I know a handful of marinas up at this end with various pros and cons. Let me know if you would like more info.

Cheers,

Chris and Kirk, thanks for the input. I've also talked to people at Herrington Harbor South and a marina in Cheasapeak Beach. Both of those are also in the $2000 price range. That's far more than I'm willing to spend on what will only be 4 or 5 weekends of sailing. My wife and I are going to Annapolis in a August for a weekend trip. I'm going to "walk the docks" and see what I can find.
Thanks for the help.

Hi RL,
Currently, We keep our boat at Holiday Hill Marina off the Rhode River which is a short distance south of Annapolis. I pay $1900 for my slip. However, if your boat is trailable there are a couple of marinas in the area, where you can store your boat on trailer for about $600 a year. These marinas are such that the mast does not have to be unstepped for the storage. If you are interested I can provide some names, addresses and Telephone numbers.

Kirk,

Did you buy Altair?

Long time racer. The C25 is my first cruising boat. Also have a Jet 14 for racing.

Yes, I bought Altair. Were you one of the other people looking at the boat? Inquiring minds want to know...

Yes, I looked at Altair, but decided on a SK instead.
