Here is a North mainsail. It has the shelf foot, flattening reef/cunningham, and 1st reef. It is full roach. It has a top full batten. It does not have sail slugs - it is a bolt rope main.
This sail has seen some use. It is in lower fair condition. However, it is not blown out, no damage, no stains.
This sail has super high quality NORTH construction compared to stock Catalina sails.
Hi: If kevin is not interested, I sure would be. Just purchased a 1985 Catalina 25 and need a decent main sail. The one that came on the boat is from a <<umm>> a Mcgregor. OK OK Quit laughing. But if it is still available, I would be interested. Thanks
This may be a stupid question, but I am still on the learning curve. I see the outhaul and the reefing ties and reefing points, but what is the line that is on the leach of the sail. I am talking about the blue line that shares the clew with the outhaul.
The blue line is my flattening reef line. I have it on a hook so I can move it between the flattening reef, or the reef cringle.
The bolt rope main is not a big deal to hoist or douse. It is a little more work. I do it single handed all the time.
Going Up:
You go to the mast, feed the bolt rope into the slot. Pull the halyard and continue feeding the bolt rope into the slot as the sail goes up. When there is about 1 or 2 feet to go, I go to the winch and finish off, you don't need to hand feed the last few feet.
Going down:
Releasing the halyard DOES NOT DROP THE SAIL. You have to go to the mast and give it a gentle tug. Then it all comes down on deck. I then grap the head and start rolling. I finish the roll up by dropping the roll into the shelf foot that is hanging off the boom.
