Truly a case of being in the right place at the right time. Winds were very elusive on Lake Arthur this past Saturday. Several boats got caught in a calm with no steerage at the last mark. We came in ten minutes ahead (one start) of two O'day 27s, two other Catalina 25s, and assorted 22s. We were still tuning the rigging and putting on sails (for the first time this season) 30 minutes before the race started ! Must be all that work we did on the bottom !
Good Job! The bottom paint probably helped, along with good sailing. If you want to keep the bottom fast all summer, just get in the water and lightly wipe (don't scrub) the bottom off with an old terry cloth towel about every two weeks. It will keep bad stuff from attaching to the bottom, and most of the other sailors won't wipe theirs down. You'll continue to be a little faster throughout the summer. If your boat is a little faster than the others, it will forgive any little mistakes you might make.
