Just added - Flush and regrease the wheel hubs on the trailer. As we are going to drag JD 600+ miles each way, figured this would be a good time. First bearing 'service' since the boat was new 24months ago.
Other things include:

Installing Lazy Jacks

Water tank Hygene

Replace Main halyard (use old as for securing the rigging to the mast

New front end bag for the boom on deck during the trip

Fix a ding in the combing

New Lower Vang Extension

Replenish galley consumables(gas, garbage bags, etc.)

Add another 50lbs to the bow ballast(sandbags this time)

And other things that the admiral puts on the 'would be nice list'
Have a great time at the Beer. I am bying my time out west before I can play in the southeast again. Keep in mind trailer bearings have a limited life. There was a few great articles about this a few years ago on the TSBB. When you do decide to replace the bearings, use Timkin and replace the races at the same time.
Pulled the trailer out of the back yard where its been sitting since last November to make prep for this years BEER cruise. Took a good look at the 10+ year old tires and saw lots of side wall cracking. My original plan was just to replace the wheel bearings but it looks like the trailer is going to get a new set of rubbers too.
Tom, had some difficulty finding a spare tyre to replace the flat, ended up going to Tyre Kindom, they installed the new tyre, replaced the valve stem, balanced the wheel & tyre in the time it took to fill out the pay-per work.
Very impressed. Could not find the tyre (st175/80d13) at-> Wallmart, Pepboys, 2 more wallmarts, Firestone tires, Local tire stop. When I arrived at Tyre Kindom, the service was simply outstanding!
Paul, you will love lazy jacks. BTW, re water tank, what do you do for water hygene? and how often. Where is your tank located. you mention you need sand bags in bow. That is where my water tank is located by PO. Does seen to keep her down.
Steve, I installed a triangular flexi water tank in the bow forward of the retained original 12/16(?) gallon tank. It made a huge difference, but we took pics of the boat with both of us ashore and the bow was still high maybe by about 1.5" or more. Hence the decision to add another 50lbs.
Don't forget, we're loaded! we have a 72lb generator on the helm seat, a 30+lb AirConditioner unit just astern of the head, and a 2nd 60ah battery to port of the original in the trunk. We're not particularly heavy (320lbs between us)
Paul, you do have a little more weight with the generator and a/c unit than me but I too have 2 batteries. Having the water tank under V Berth helps. But I tend to agree, she still rides high. I got a couple of sand bags at home I must might have to add as an experiment. Good Sailing!

$85 for the tyre, fitting, stem and balance.

Picked up 4 new ST205-75-14D bias tires at Kauffman Tire today. Got all 4 mounted with new valve stems for $296. Once I took my old ones off I could see they were worse that I thought. The cracking between the threads was bad. The trailer got 10 years of use out of them so I can't complain.
Planning is moving ahead, we have the route mapped out, and charts of the area printed and laminated.
The new anchor light(s) arrived and the new main halyard, will install both this weekend.
Question: In the past we have used the main and jib halyards to secure the mast and shrouds for trailering, but now that we are replacing the main halyard, I thought I would use the old one to wrap up the mast.
So how do you guys secure the halyards for trailering if they are not wrapped around the mast??? Paul
Hey Paul, I don't do anything special with the halyards. I tie off the ends near the boom attachment and leave them running along the mast, they stay in the deck blocks and clutches. When the mast is horizontal there is just a few feet of the halyards left in the clutches.
I spent last weekend replacing the bearings and seals on the trailer. I also inspected and adjusted the brakes. I'm hoping I have them adjusted right. Replaced the rusty Atwood Surge Brake Actuator with a different model made by Tie Down.
Pulled the boat out on Monday and scrubbed the bottom, I use the BEER Cruise as my annual pull out date.
Installed the LED anchor light last night, very bright. I have a small list of things to get done prior to the trip. I want to "Shock Treat" the freshwater tank, I bought a solar vent I need to get installed on the forward hatch. Want to run a flag halyard so I can fly the Jolly Roger . Wash the sails, etc. etc. Think I'm going to run out of time.
Just purchased 4 new fenders, the admiral was worried at the prospect of boats rafted 5 deep and us in the middle! Our plan is to take Tuesday off from lunchtime, get the loading done and the house ready for our daughter (she takes care of Cloe our 75lb German shepherd). Then with luck we'll be on the trail by lunchtime wednesday. Hoping to get to Tallahassee before dark and C250RV out over night. An early start Thursday should get us into the marina by late lunch.
Having been to one BEER cruise you are a little justified to be concerned about the big raftup. I will never forget watching the "show". One guy sailed his boat up to the beach and ran for the bar without taking down his sails! Another had the "stupid old lady" on the bow during an unusual anchoring manuver. The Beer cruisers are the best though for putting on a time you wont forget any time soon. The descision to raft up is yours and most do not. Have fun, I am jealous. Tom Potter will show you the ropes.
Paul, we will be headed down Wednesday morning starting out about 4am. I plan to work in Pensacola on Wednesday at one of my stores. One of those Business/Pleasure trips.
