Chris your Hobie trip and this thread reminded me of a trip I took to the lake with my brother when it was howling in a winter storm. When we arrived at the lake we untied the mast from the trailer and then got back into the truck to consider if we really wanted to go out on the lake with its nukin winds. When a gust blew the mast out of the crutch on the trailer that settled it for me - no way!
Todd, One of my sailor friends (Mike and I went out one day when it was reall howling, we were on the west shore, hidden behind trees from the actual wind, sailed off from shore, once beyond the shadow of thew trees the wind blew the 16 right over. Righted the boat. Sailed off with the sail almost all the way out, capsized again. keep in mind this all happened in a matter of about 5 minutes. Decided to call it a day. We figure it was at least 35 plus. Of course the 16 has always been known to be overpowered. I have never complained though, what a ride!!!
