I recall a recent (within last month) discussion regarding someone that had an issue with the fuel connector to the engine. I developed a problem but somewhat different but it has been resolved. thgought i would share the info.
I have a Honda 2006 since feb 2006. It has worked flawlessly since I purchased it and that is all year round. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the engine hose connector seemed wet with fuel when I was about to hook it up to the engine. Thought perhaps the fuel tank cover was pressing on the connector release but did not really give it much thought since once or twice there was hardly any leakage noticeable. Then last week i went out with the family and there was a strong fuel smell. After hooking up the connector to the engine and squeezing the bulb, there seemed to be less resistance than normal and I did notice some fuel drops in the water. We went sailing and upon returning, I started my engine before entering the marina and it then konked out. I squeezed the bulb and then restarted with no problems. I then took the hose off and brought it to the marina where I bought the engine.
It is barely noticeable but in sunlight, a small opening/crack is in the inside ring/housing and that was what was causing the leak and then air to enter the hose. I replaced the connector and went sailing the other day with no hose issues. Kind of surprised that a crack developed after only a year in service but...easy enough fix.
Glad it was an easy fix Larry. I developed a crack in my fuel line at the connector once. It was apparently caused by flexing the fuel line when I tilted the motor up. Like yours, it was an easy fix. But I now have stainless screw-type hose clamps on both ends of the line so I can fix it onboard if it ever happens again.
