I have launched my new 250 WB at two different lakes since I got it. Both times I had to back my SUV until the tailpipe was under water before the boat would float off. This may be ok in fresh water but I plan to take my boat to the coast. I know some people seperate the boat and trailor and use a rope to pull it out. I would prefer a stiff extension that is easy to use. I need about eight more feet between the truck and the trailor. Does anyone have experience with this?
When you say 'new' 250 WB, how new is that? For about a year now it is my understanding that all 250 WBs are delivered with a trailer tonuge extension as standard. My 250 WB was delivered in April and I got the tongue extension.
Most often when launching I do not need to pull out the extension and can put my Suburban's wheels about three feet from the water's edge (on a steep ramp). The boat rolls off without any problem. However, when recovering, I pull the extension out and can retreive the boat easily with the rear truck wheels around five feet from the water. Never measured, but I would guess that the extension is somewhere around ten feet. Makes a big difference when recovering.
Evidently your trailer doesn't already have the extension. The Trail-Rite version is a neat package. Not sure how you would go about retrofitting a trailer that didn't already have one. Check with a welding shop would be my recommendation. Good luck with it.

My "older" trailer, circa 1998, came with the extension, and I don't recall that it was an option on the price list. Are you sure you don't have the extension too? On mine, you have to hook up to a different hitch that's upside down in the storage position. I haven't used it in a while, but as I recall you have to pull out the extending tongue and turn it over to position the hitch for use.
