I have an 85 Catalina 25, all original. The head was working fine at the end of last season, but I can't seem to get fresh water through the hull into the head. I have tried the main valve in both positions just to make sure it wasn't closed, but haven't had any luck so far. I can flush the head, but only with a bucket of fresh water from the lake. Any ideas on how to get my head working the right way again? Thanks, Larry
First off, if you have the optional vanity sink, make sure you have a stopper in it.
Just a few weeks ago, I experienced the same problem (no flush water) and thought I was in for a rebuild, but I discovered the inlet hose to the toilet had become loose and popped off. After reattaching it, I was back in business.
The "flapper" valve in the hand pump may also be stuck closed. I periodically lube mine with vaseline. Be very careful when replacing the screws on the handle assembly. If you tighten too much, the seats will break and you will have a leak.
Thanks Don. I do have the optional vanity sink and will make sure there is a stopper in it and will also check for loose hoses if the stopper solution doesn't work. Best, Larry
Sometimes I get an air bubble (lock) in the intake line and have to put water in the sink and open that valve while pumping the head to force the bubble out. If you're intake hose is clear you can see the bubble. By the way, does a vented loop act as an air release valve?

(I believe Bill Holcomb has a story...)
I found that by arranging the hose between a drain and a thru-hull so there were no local high points allowed water to drain nicely. Any upward turn can capture air that must be pushed all the way down through the thru-hull to get water to flow--the air pushes back.
The stopper is needed in the vanity sink to keep it from ventilating the head input and preventing water from being drawn up from the thru-hull. (Air is easier to pull up than water.) A vent on that line is the opposite of what you need.
