<font size="1">"The trouble started around 10 a.m. They were about 10 miles off Government Cut when a <font color="red">water scooter</font id="red"> fell off the back of the sailboat.
When Murray went to fetch it, he noticed the rear of the vessel was taking on water -- quickly"</font id="size1">
I'm thinking he might have had a big "Jet Ski" hanging off the stern and the davits gave way, knocking a big hole in the stern.
I heard the May-Day on the news. Captain was telling the coast guard that the engine was taking on water. Classic automated system failure. the critical area of the boat with all the electronics and engine services suffers complete failure when wet. ie: bilge pump quit when its powersource got wet. Boat sank stern down.
I used to have a stink pot with a OMC inboard. There was a rubber gasket where the leg exited the stern. I sold the boat after hearing many stories about gasket failure. The guy I sold the boat to (my cousin) had the boat sink about a year after he bought it. He converted it to an outboard, at great expense. He just started talking to me a few months ago. Ten years of silence was wonderful.
Here's another video that shows the yacht much better before it sinks. Its one of those fancy "sailboats", the ones without mast or sails. Just a big iron genny and a flying bridge.
When we launch from black point marina, probably the busiest public marina in florida, in two years, we have only seen 3 other sail boats on the ramps!!!!
If Boat US is lurking, they could tell us the ratio of powerboats to sailboats registered in florida. but our experience says it's something like less than 1%
If you look away from the ramps, then black point marina has a large sailing fleet, but it is dwarfed by the daily number of power boats that use the ramps. ie. if there were 100 sailboats in the marina slips, then more powerboats launch from the ramps on a quite day!
And if you count the number of sailboats that actually leave the marina... whoooa! It's us and the few Macs.
So no wonder the news media called that mini mega yatch (is that a midi yatch) a 'sailboat'.
This is another reason we are headed for the B.E.E.R. Cruise this week, 92 boats are registered, perhaps 80% wll turn up, 70+ 'sailboats' (with sails ) will be an awesome sight! We'll take extra memory chips! and my video camera recharger!
