Six shroud retaining plugs: $12 ($2/ea) Shipping to Washington State: $14 (<i>you've got to be kidding me, they weigh maybe an ounce each?</i>) Knowing my shrouds will stay in place as I raise & lower my mast: Priceless

Good point Don, although under tension they're not <i>likely </i>to come out (crossing my fingers). I'm only missing one for the "real" shrouds as opposed to the baby stays, but my port inner likes to pop out just as we're raising the mast which can be...disconcerting. I've learned to keep some tension on it as Rita cranks the mast up so it can't pop out. Shouldn't have to do that anymore once these show up in a few days.
I tried to find a vendor closer to here to purchase them from, but the only vendors I could easily locate were in the UK, and I've already been bitten on Ebay buying stuff from there & paying 3-5x what the item cost for shipping.
My dealer did not use them when we raised the mast on PennyII. I did not know there was such a thing. What he did was insert the them into the holes pull them down against the mast and tie six pound fishing line around were the wire meets the hook. As we raises the mast and the stays went tight, pulling away from the mast it broke and all stayed in place. I have only dropped my mast once since then, but used the same procedure and it worked fine. Since then I found three of the little black plugs in one of the baggies he gave me. Maybe the next time I go up the stick, I will insert them in the uppers.
Hah, well three was all I really needed...should have made a deal with you.
We haven't had any problems when dropping the mast, but nearly every time when we raise it I'll find the port inner shroud has dropped into a neat coil inside the cabin.
Yes, they're T-ball retaining plugs. If you're looking for them you need to measure the inside dimensions of the backing plate (mine were 15/16th x 1/2) to determine which ones you need.
