Over the winter my bow railing was bent in the boat yard that is currently storing my boat. (SURPRISE) No one saw or reported the accident... so I'm on my own to get it repaired. I am looking for a used bow railing from a 1980 or close to it Catalina 25. I am willing to pay shipping from anywhere in the continental U.S.. However, I live in the Mid Atlantic Region and would be willing to pick it up in any of the Mid Atlantic States. Please respond by E-mail to uncas21152@yahoo.com
I'm in the same boat (pun intended). I have found some thin wall stainless 1" tubing from a swim ladder and I am making a piece to fit the front of the pulpit. The local welder would not take on the task of bending thin walled stainless but the piece I got looks like it will work without bending. CD has new ones but they are quite proud of them, based upon the price! Is your's repairable? If not, I may be able to find out where a wrecked C25 has wound up and I can point you in that direction. Ed
Is it a yard full of trailers, or one where they haul your boat and put it on stands? If the latter, there can't be much debate over who did the damage... unless it was in a spot where a truck could back into it.
Ed, Thank you for the info. I was hoping to hear back from someone who knew where the elusive Catalina 25 graveyard is.... The Chesapeake has a very large Catalina 25 fleet and I was thinking that the odds would be with me. If you can steer me toward a wrecked boat or someone selling old parts I sure would appreciate it.
My concern with the CD rail is that it is for the later model C-25's. It looks a bit different than the 1980 OE rail. My boat is in great shape and I want to keep it as original as possible. I was brought up on a wooden boat by a father who served in the Coast Guard. I mantain my boat like a Lab retrieves ducks.I never had any choice in the matter!LOL
My concern with doing a repair is that the rail is bent about 3 degrees down. The bend is just forward of where the top rail meets the most forward stanchion. There is a weld at this seam. I have considered bending it back and having someone weld it at the seam between the rail and the stanchion but I still question whether this would be as strong as the original. All in all I would feel better with a new rail from a safety standpoint.
Dave, Mostly boats on stands. I would imagine it was hit by the travel lift.

Do they have another theory? Unless there's a good one, the burden of proof would seem to be on them, not you. Unless your bow was exposed to something like truck traffic, it's hard to imagine what else could have happened. You don't have to see something happen to know it happened, and by process of elimination, to determine who did it. Does your storage contract state that they're not responsible for damage they cause?
Highly doubt is was while moving it. The straps are nowhere near the bow with a travel lift. I'd go for it being hit while moving another probably adjacent boat. Or if they use one of the cranes with the big steel box and straps. It does take a good amount of knots to put a bend in one of those.
I have contacted White Water Marine about repairing my pulpit. I'll let you know what they say in a few days. Dan
Happy D, Thanks for the information! I have downloaded the measurement form from their website. This looks like the best option so far. I just hope that they are not outrageous on their pricing.
