Well, it's official. I can now say that I have a boat to join the group! The new boat sits patiently outside the slip waiting for the darn lake levels to drop here in Texas. Nothing more frustrating than having the new toy and not be able to play with it. Seriously though, they are saying that the lake level should drop in the next couple of weeks and I'll be sailing (with lots of questions) in no time.
Bryan: Welcome to the group. As a fellow tall rig fin keel owner I am prejuiced that you got one of the best models ever made. I'll vouch for her seaworthiness as proven on Lake Superior. I know she'll take me through practically anything. The best part is when your out in 18 mph winds with just the jib up and waves are 1 foot or less and a good gust hits you. You can just feel her bite into the wind and accelerate. Carol and I hit 7.1 mph on Lake Muskegon, MI last Sat in just such conditions . What a ride! Now you need to find a small sailing club and just hang out for the Wednesday night races and follow the number one racer in the club around the course and get the feel of what the boat can do. Try not to get addicted to racing because those people have a tendancy to drool at the sight of an America's Cup boat. Ron
Im in the same boat ~ almost literally ... We have a new Catalina 25 (new to us, its a '77) sitting in a Marina on Lake Travis that is flooded, we bought it a day before the lake closed almost three weeks ago. We can't even get to the boat to clean it up!!! The water seems to be pulling back now though a foot a day - hang in there!
Welcome. I had my 85 standard rig fin out in 15-20 knot winds on lake Michigan last weekend and it was a great and very controlled ride! Was at 6- 6.7 knots steady for almost 4 miles on a beam reach.
I'm excited about the boat and have it at Grapevine Lake here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area - just north of DFW airport. There is a great sailing club at the lake that I'm excited about getting involved with in the coming weeks. They offer Wednesday and Saturday races, which I'm excited to chase soon.
Now if the flood waters will recede, I can get her out on the water.
Welcome to the fleet, Bryan. I'm a fin keel fan also.
I know the anticipation must be killing you, but hopefully your lake levels will drop soon so you can let the fun commence. When I bought my C25, I had to wait about 6 months before I could sail her. Talk about jonesin'!
Bryan, Welcome to the group, from another new member and fellow tall rigger. We bought our C-25, a 1984 SK last fall. Lots of very nice people communicate regularly via this forum, sharing great ideas. They have a great sense of humor, too. LOL. You'll enjoy it, and learn a lot from people who have been there before you. David
Bryan We were at Silver Lake Marina on Grapevine for 5 years before moving to Galveston. Grapevine is a fun lake to sail, nice long runs when the upper end is full of water. Welcome to the C25 family. john on ms achsa Galveston Island....because life's to short to live in Dallas.
