Otherwise, O'Day built some nice boats. But O'Day is long gone--you're pretty much dependent on generic parts and support.
The 272 is a superb boat and better than our Catalina 25s in almost every way. The only thing a 25 has over the 272 is we are over built and the ODay is not. Look for leaks at the portlights behind the mast and under the bridgedeck. I just helped instal marine AC in one and I would love to own one. The LE is the inboard model and the none LE tend to be OB, Cabintop traveler so you can have a great bimini, handles a wheel very well, and on and on. The trailer for sale on the swap meet will carry it too!
I'm looking at an '87 on Saturday. It's a tall rig/fin keel. Asking price with a trailer and outboard is $9,500.00. The trailer is not that greatest and the 150 was shredded when it got wrapped around the furler but the interior looks almost new in the pictures.
BTW, Jon, at 9' the O'Day 272 is a wide load on the road in most states--don't know about Ohio. And I suspect you should figure on about 9,000 lbs. towing weight.

Back on the subject of the motor, I have a 6 hp Tohatsu 4 stroke long shaft on my C-25 and have had it in some fairly rough water in Puget Sound without a problem. Yes, the prop will come out of the water from time to time as with any motor with a 20 inch shaft, and it won't quite get up to hull speed. But it goes 2-3 hours on a gallon of gas and other than it being noisy I don't really see much advantage to a different motor.
