I have just completed an 8 day cruise of the North Channel in my C25. This was a shakedown of sorts. I have sailed a C22 for a number of years and have had a lot of experience with the swing keel. Sailing my 77 C25 though has been interesting on most points of sail she performs beautifully however to windward I found her sluggish and would tend to wallow or fall off without making a lot of headway. when we arrived in the Benjamin Islands where the water is warmer and very clear I went down with the mask to take a look at the keel. it did not seem to be all the way down. the cable was slack and taking a flashlight I stood on the bottom looking up into the slot and couldn't see any thing jamming or blocking the pivot. The foot should be parallel with the boot line when the keel is down right? mine is not! Does any one have any thoughts? I'll put her in slings when we get back to Lake Erie in September and could have a better look then.

Here's a picture of my 1979 C-25 with its swing keel all the way down. <img src="http://www.trailersailor.com/uploads/c25sk080b.jpg" border=0> Sorry it's not a full on side view, but I think you can get some idea what the fully lowered keel should look like. As you can see, the keel does angle back quite a bit, but the very bottom edge of the keel is pretty much parallel to the waterline.
You might want to give a real good look inside the keel trunk at the forward section to make sure that somethings not jammed in there(like a piece of wood or a rock)or that someone hasn't had to repair it from damage and globbed on the fiberglass to fix a hole from a keel drop....
