I have a Mariner knot meter on My 80 s/k t/r. It has never worked very well and what I really need is a depth meter. I am guessing it is about 4" in diameter. Any Ideas what I could replace it with that would read depth?
A lot of us use fish finders for depth sounders because they are so easy to install and cheap. My Humminbird Matrix has built in GPS... depth and speed, cheap. If you can afford it it is better to buy a simple fishfinder for depth and for speed a nice color GPS with maps, you will love the maps and the added compass feature.
Thanks Frank, I am kinda looking for something to stick in the hole my present Meter is in. I agree a fish finder would be the ticket, but I would still have a "sorta" dead meter in my bulkhead.

Can you remove the guts from the knot meter housing and replace the guts with a piece of smoked plastic in the old housing? Cut a hole in the plastic for the new depth meter readout. Drop me an email if you want to go this way. I can probably do it for you if you need help. Dan
I asked Defender.com recently what they were selling since SR Mariner is no longer making new units. They said the MOOR ELECTRONICS depth meter fits the 4" hole.
maybe a compass and a fish finder are the way to go. The Moor meter looks nice but pretty pricey. any thoughts on a noninvasive way to mount a fish finder?
