I have had an incredibly slow starter on my Honda since I bought my very neglected boat. I re-terminated a few connections but to no avail. Last week I noticed an acrid smell coming from the sail locker, inspection showed the 12 volt wiring from the battery to the terminal lugs in the fuel locker to be overheating and behaving badly. I have read many posts about people installing a plug and socket for their outboard 12 volt circuit so I had gotten one in anticipation of the right time to do it; this was the right time. Now my Honda starter spins gaily and I feel better with new ANCOR 10 gauge tinned wire. The plug went in without a hitch, my only advice is to note how many pieces are "keyed" so you need to keep everything oriented correctly as you assemble it. I was very pleased with how it turned out.
I have been using the same plug on my boat for a couple years. I upgraded the wires to 6 gauge, due to the distance to the batteries. I works great. I was wondering what the other plugs in the inspection plates were used for....
The rail mount speakers, you can see them in the second photo. They have sunbrella covers. That inspection plate is stock on an '89, you can access the chainplate bolts from it.
