Do any of you keep your C25's on a floating boat lift similar to a Hydro Hoist? Other than eliminating marine growth on the bottom do you have any positive or negative comments on storing a boat this way? Does it cause stress cracks in the hull? Any maintenance problems with the hoist that one should be aware of?

Thanks in advance for your help!

They attract high wind and flooding.

I've had "This Side Up" on a Hydro-Hoist since 1992. The only part of the boat that remains in the water is the lower 80% of the keel. On this is VC17 Offshore and it wipes clean of marine growth with a cloth
(the paint is at least 10 years old and shows no sign of breakdown).
So far I estimate that the hoist has saved at least 5 bottom jobs at $1200 apiece.
As far as maintenance is concerned, it is minimal. I swim it every Summer looking for corrosion, rusting or anything else amiss. The only problem I've had was that one band (securing the tank to the hoist frame) broke during one of our violent storms.
I highly recommend hoists especially for serious racers - it gives us a fighting chance against the boats that are dry sailed.

That's what I was thinking. One of the C25's I've been looking at is on a HydroHoist but it has a leak. The owner is willing to throw in the HydroHoist with the sale of the boat but I'd have to get it repaired and then move it down to the Hill Country. Seems like it might add value to the selling price of the boat much like a trailer.

I remember seeing your boat at the marina a couple of months ago when I was looking at an O'Day 23. You've got a nice boat. I don't remember which pier your on. Are you on the same pier as the HCYC or are you on the next pier out?

Well Frank, we have had plenty of high wind and floods this year - but I don't think there are enough hoists in the marina to be much of an attraction!
GaryB - yes I am on "B" dock, the same as the yacht club. Us B dock boaters are fortunate to be by the channel to the marina store and fuel dock. So every weekend we have a constant parade of bikini clad ladies passing by, usually in power boats (grrr!)

I liked the ones on the Ranger 22 while I was visiting you, I would have gladly given sailing lessons to any of them. I think it was three girls in bikinis and one guy with a big grin.
