Just curious who all is planning to make it out to the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis October 4th-8th? http://www.usboat.com/us_sailboat_show.html I'm planning to go on Monday the 8th. It wasn't that crowded last year on the Monday (Columbus Day). Hopefully we will have some nice weather that weekend! Sail Saturday and Sunday, then check out all the nice sailboats on Monday.

My slip is about 5 miles south of Annapolis, so I sail in that area. Sorry I can't offer a place to stay; I live 1.5 hours away and only have a small condo. If anyone is just visiting the area and maybe wants to try some sailing on the bay on one of the days I'm not going to the show, I might be able to use some crew. We'll have to see as we get closer to that weekend.

(The Marriott fills up a year in advance.)
I'm heading for Norwalk next week--not real big on sail, but you know about me... ...and I'm mostly looking at gear.
HI gang I will be there for the show, but I will be there for thursday and friday leaving sat. heard that was less crowded days...I am staying at the double tree, 123.00 per night was cheapest that I could find...oh n thats with my trusty mil id card...well Justin, wish I wasnt leaving Sat, a sail would be great. well talk to you all later Bear

I'm not going to the show this year as my wife and I are visiting my son in Mountainview California. I do have a lot of experience in hotels in the area. You are a bit too late to find anything short of 50 miles! The Baltimore airport is a favorite for lower cost lodging, but it should be full by now. Do NOT get a room at the Emabassy suites at the airport (I did last year) as it is falling apart and dirty.
What you should be doing is booking your room for next year - right now! That said, plan on staying over 50 miles away for anything under $150/night. You won't miss anything by not saying in town and you will save some big bucks over the $400 going show rate in Annapolis.
I will give you a parking tip. Go early in the morning (get there at 7:30-9:00 and drive past the show entrances (at waters edge) and over the draw bridge (past show) and there will be plenty of parking on the streets within walking distance from show (south east of bay). Over the bridge and first main intersection, go right and there is a plaza about 1/4 mile south and on left that has a great deli and breakfast place used by the locals. We had breakfast there each morning. You can't park in the plaza so park nearby and walk to the deli.
Have not decided whether to go or not this year. Decision is easier when I participate in the Seagull Century Bike Ride in Salisbury, Md and have to drive past the Annapolis area anyway. When I do participate in the bike ride, the past few years I have been booking a hotel room on the beach in Ocean City. Usually at the Comfort Inn. The Ocean City/beach/waterfront area is also busy Columbus Day weekend because they have some other competing events going on. They usually have a golf tournament in the area that weekend and at the beach there is a antigue car show going on. Ocean City is abit far from Annapolis...and past it but you get to be on the Ocean same weekend. It is about 1 3/4 - 2 hrs from Annapolis. I usually would book around January/February and in the past able to get a rate around $100. If booking around that time and do not desire going as far as Ocean City, rcmd try booking a hotel near Easton or Cambridge, Md. These small towns are also past Annapolis but if you book around Jan/Feb probably able to get a good rate well below $100 and about 1/2-3/4 hr away from Annapolis.
Another suggestion for last minute arrnagements is to perhaps conside flying into Washington Natl Airport or Dulles which are both in Northern Va and then book a hotel in the Alexandria area or therebouts. From there, you are probably far enough way not to be effected by the boat show people hotel bookings and yet near the Wilson Bridge which is about an hour from Annapolis.
