greetings everyone, my wife and i have just acquired our capri 25 which has been sadly neglected. we hope to be working on it over the next few months to get it ready for spring 2008. not knowing too much about the capri 25, we are hoping we can get much needed help through this forum. joe
thanks much. may i ask what could be the first of many questions as to what four stroke engine size i should get? we will be day sailing most of the time on lake michigan out of winthrop harbor in illinois. joe
Hi Joe, I have a Nissan 6 hp. I sail on a small lake (relative to Lake Michigan) and I feel the my motor is overpowered for this boat. I'm thinking of trying to downsize to a 3 or 3.5 hp. But you might need more hp to fight the wind and current where you sail, so I'd suggest you take the advice of another Lake Michigan Capri sailor.
Also, I've read somewhere that the Capri 25 stern is "weak". I know that where my outboard bracket is mounted the stern has alot of "flex" and I'm leary of applying too much thrust to it. I'm going to research a way to reinforce this area when I get time.
thanks for the input, joe. i had planned on putting a 5 hp outboard, but i was advised to put a bigger one to handle strong headwinds. re the weak stern, one of the members had posted some info on reinforcing the transom. i am thinking of opurchasing the steel plate he has avaailable for this purpose. joe
I have a 4hp 2 stroke on the back of our capri 25. I think the power is just right for this boat, I would suggest that you get the long shaft, I had a short for about 1 year, and it would come up at times. We are on a smaller inland lake, but we tend to get larger white caps becuse of the narrow channel. I have yet to see our transom flex because of the motor? I will have to check it out. The PO might have re-inforced this before I bought the boat.
just came back from the yard and decided i need to replace the compass, depth gauge and knot meter. may i ask for suggestions as to what and where i can purchase suitable replacements? thanks. joe
