Frank - it really is a small space! I keep a throwing line and my spare dock lines (that I use to tie up at the other Yacht Club after races). Also a short line that raises the aft end of the O/B and ties to the stern pulpit (keeps the prop out of the water when heeled to port). There isn't room for more...I know some of the guys keep their beer in it as it's handy to the helm Derek
We keep reefing lines in there, those little velcro tie downs straps, sail ties winch and tiller covers. Also one can of gas for the grill, as it is heavier than air we want to keep it out of the cabin.
Its also very handy for swearing at Frank Butler for making it so gosh darn small....
Come on guys, if Frank made it bigger, you'd be swearing at him for making the quarterberth so hard to move in! I keep an air horn, bilge pump handle, and a few miscellaneous lines in there. I'm glad it didn't make mounting my new motor bracket any harder.

This is our second season with the Cat 25 and I opened that locker for the first time this spring. I found a bottle of teak oil, a razor blade, a replacement line and handle for a pull start lawn mower? (back-up for the outboard maybe?), and assorted cotter pins, washers and screws. Oh, and a toothbrush.
I've heard it called a cooler (but there's not a lot of insulation around it) and a suggestion that it could be used for storing the small propane tanks for the BBQ and stove. I haven't figured out what to do with it yet, but the propane storage idea sounds pretty good. I don't do much beer drinking until the anchor's down.
What I'd like to know is what's that little shelf at the far end of the quarterberth for?
it has been so long since I looked in there I dont know what is in there! whatever it is I probally dont need it!
I keep propane bottles and a can of WD-40 in there, so any leaks of either don't end up in the bilge. I also keep a few fishing lures in there.
I keep my first aid kit, as well as backup paper towels, baby wipes and diapers on the little shelf at the aft end of the quarterberth.
By the way, a box of baby wipes are a very handy thing onboard. I tend to use them all the time for non-baby/child uses and intend to keep a box there even after my children no longer need them.
It's taken so long for the forum to answer my call that I can't remember why I cliked. My fault I'm sure... Oh yeah, the locker back by the motor mount...Richard was close...Three empty baby wipe containers full of fishing lures/sinkers/reels/fillet knife and anything else that I can stuff in there. John, that shelf should have a book for those hearty enough to have made it all the way back there to sign-in, something like the book one signs having sailed around the horn, the one atop the mountain, sorry no earring. For a sailor with vertigo it's a trap unmentionable!!!! So what else is new...anyone been sailing??????
I keep the Autopilot there. I'ts right were I need it when I want to go below to make a sandwich or visit the head. Just pop it out and snap it on the tiller. The other locker which we refer to as the dungeon is so deep and you can black out from being head down looking for a small item.
I went to wal mart and got mesh laundry bags for dock lines, bumpers and PFD's it makes it really easy to find those things.

When I got our boat (after 8 years in the boatyard) I found the gas can for the outboard on that shelf. (port side, dungeon) I thought that fumes being heavier than good, clean air should be on the outside, I moved the can to between the seats under the tiller. Works great, not in the way and the fumes can float away. The little locker? I have some lines. Haven't found a perfect use for it yet.
I found it! Catalina named this thing the "starboard storage compartment." Mystery solved, case closed. You're welcome.

Wow I'm glad I got a 250! Both my lazarettes are equal size and equally usable. Of course there is a propane vault on the starboard side for the galley. But I've still got room for the flare gun so it is close at hand in the event a stinkpotter cuts me off so I can blast him. Also keep disposable propane for the grill in there along with spare dock lines, gloves, etc. Port side has bucket, cast net, deck brush, cleaners, sponge, tiller extention, horn, etc. The spare gas can fits nicely against the boarding ladder on the stern. I remember my C-22 had one of those dungeons that everything disappeared into. The fuel tank was also in there. One day I discovered about two gallons of fuel had siphoned off the tank into the locker.

Who asked you?? Truth be told, the port-side locker in a C-25 can hold an whole C-250 (with the mast down). Have you ever climbed into one of your lockers and had the cover fall closed while you were down inside? (I have!) Your equal-sized lockers are more like the dinky thing we're complaining about!

"Port side has bucket, cast net, deck brush, cleaners, sponge etc." Ben - haven't they heard about dock boxes in FL... Derek (with tongue in cheek)
Okay, break it up....Ben, get back to your forum , Bristle get back to your corner..... When I call you back out I want you to come to the center of the ring, touch fenders and fight. Let's keep everything above the belt....
Hey Val, are you eluding to the fact that you rounded the Cape and you didn't get an earing???.....That would probably be the only earing I would wear...
That reminds me of a story in Sail or Sailing a few years back, a doctor put the earing in for a newbie who made the rounding. He wrote the entire story as if he were performing surgery, seems he used a bottle of Mount Gay Rum as both an antiseptic and a sedative.
Speaking of which, a bottle of that would fit rather nicely in that locker on the starboard side....I think I'll run on out to the liquor store while gary is off to the wallmart..

I'm amazed at all the stuff we pack into that little storage locker. Fire extinguisher. Spare boat keys. Heaving line. Lead line for sounding depths when the depth finder goes on the blink, or you want to sound depths along the launch ramp or wherever. Bilge pump handle. Spare main sheet for use with the LifeSling. Winch handles and air horn when the boat is "put to bed". Padlocks when the boat is underway. And a six foot chunk of SS chain when we feel the need to lock up the outboard motor.
I took my saw salls and cut the tray out. then I added a bulkhead just forward of the hatch. Lowes had a sale on window ac units and lowe(no pun) and behold we now have air condition on our catalina 25! We use the hatch to have a small fan in and exhaust the hot air from the unit. We have used the ac several times and what a joy!
