The season ended yesterday for me in Plymouth MA. This was the first year with my boat,250 WB,and I have trouble getting the trailer deep enough, particularly when hauling out with a full ballast. Short of getting an amphibious vehicle for hauling the trailer has anyone found a solution to this problem?

You should be talking to the wing keel boys as they are the ones who use a stronger front wheel on the trailer and put a strap 20 to 50 feet long between the tow vehicle and the trailer. I'm sure a few pictures have been posted on the subject.
The other possibility is to find a steeper ramp. I hate having my truck go into salt water so I know where the better ramps are.
Some of the Water ballast people also blow the ballast with compressed air before recovering the the boat on to the trailer.
Good Luck.

Mike, Use the search function on this forum, plenty of answers. Easiest way is to purchase a small air pump and blow the ballast, before entering the ramp area. I am fortunate having electricity at my slip and use a small vacumn cleaner and attach the vacumn hose to the outlet of the vacumn cleaner. Got to get all the heavy stuff out of the boat. Water ballast alone is worth 1000 pds and 5-6 inches of boat out of the water. Procedures are in this forum. I use to use the rule half the exhaust pipe in the water and half out on my truck.
when backing down the ranp. Others will chime in here...

Mike, I always make sure the bow roller on the trailer is underwater. Did you use the tongue extension? I do not usually blow the water out but, have and it does help to get the boat on the trailer. If none of this helps I would check other ramps - I have found a great deal of variation between the 10 or so I have used so far. I have actually had the greatest difficulty on the steepest ramps.

I have the trailer that came with our boat ( I think it is a trail rite). The tongue extension is a second hitch just below and back from the primary hitch. It has a pin in it that you remove and slide the extension out (ours has to be completely slid out and rotated 90 degrees) when the extension is about 12' out another hole lines up and the pin is reinserted. The new hitch is then attached to the tow vehicle and your ready. This extension gives me about 12 extra feet of tongue length, usually enough to keep my back wheels well away from the water and still able to retrieve the boat without emptying the ballast.

The tongue extension sounds perfect, unfortunately I don't have one. I did a search and found some good ideas (a fifth wheel and extension strap). I'll add this to my winter list of projects. Thanks.
