Has anyone had a problem with C cushions not fitting? I ordered a pair from CD (not cheap) and they are about 5-6 inches too long. They claim it is because of the altitude (expansion, I am at 8000 ft)but I am skeptical, they want me to mark them off and send them back for recutting, I am going to do this but I also want them to fit at lower elevations. I also am not too happy about paying for shipping them back, I waited 6 weeks to get them the first time around. My original cushions were OK, but if they got wet, like rain, they took weeks to dry. Any others experience would be helpful...
The foam would probably expand some but but not in a single plane. (You said they were too long, not too tall or wide. The fabric containing it wouldn't evenly expand like that. The seams would pucker. I imagine quite a lot. With that in mind, I think maybe the manufacturer is trying to cover an error. I'd at least take a drive down the mountain and see if they shrink 5-6 inches. I would think they should eat the cost for this. Imagine the fun you'd have going up and down the mountains if your car seats expanded and contracted that much.
No way will altitude make that significant a change in any poly/foam material used in cushions. You might get a minor degree of expansion/shrinkage -- more likely due to temp than alt -- but it would be proportional (width as well as length) and minimal. Based on my experience with CD while I like them and know they are trying -- at times they can be VERY trying! I bet they had the cushion made to the wrong pattern template, such as for a C-22 or C-27 and are now trying to cover up why they need to have them re-worked. I would just send them back and get them fixed. If they insist on the freight and you paid by CC talk to the CC company -- they may be able to get a credit for you.
I don't buy it either! Those cushion are for a C22 probably. I have C cushions for my C22, they are about 6 inches longer, and wanted them re-cut for my C25. C Cushion informed me that in the process of re-cutting and re-sealing the cushion would shrink completely. C Cushion can't guarantee a good fit from a re-cut. I'm sure you can return them as unacceptable quality. Randy C25 #5947

This is great! So that means your boat expanded to about 28 feet so the cushions should fit just fine.
CD has always been very good.....till lately. I am not sure what their problem is but I have ordered a few items this past season and there always seems to be something not quite right. The latest was my forward hatch hinge. I ordered them on the phone, the young lady double checked the type 2 or 3 hole. I ended up getting what looked right but was just slightly off. Enough that I had to epoxy the holes re drill and use both hinges and I had to do this twice as my measuring was slightly flawed. The point is CD at least in my past experience has always been a direct replacement for most of there parts or at least with the instructions - tools - and advice to get the job done for us less than handy craftsmen.
I guess they are having the same QC issues that every company goes through. Oh and the hinges were West Marine packaged which I could have bought locally with no shipping and at a discount.
just starting to get a bad taste dealing with them. Just my 2 cents.
I just measured the cockpit seat on my 1975 C-22. If your cushion measures 76 inches at the back of the cushion and 78 inches at the front, give or take an inch, then the odds are good that they sent you cushions for a C-22. If so, then CD should pay for the return shipping. Hope that helps. David
