Good day all,

Recently I have started a search for a 2008 slip here on Long Island, NY. Finding an ok slip with a resonable price is a hard match. I have found an opening at Anchorage Yacht Club at a reasonable yearly rate.My only concern is the shallows on the west side of the Great South Bay. I have a swing keel so my draft should be sufficient until I get to deeper water. I have also called around the local area and have been put on waiting lists. Does any Member from Long Island have any reccomendations?

Nickyt7,

There were open slips at Dockside 500 this past year, don't know what that says about next year, give a call.

Val,

Thanks, I have called them twice with no return phone call. They take a message and never call back?

No such luck,
Nick

Try Willis Marina in Huntington. Family owned, nice group of people. I only keep my boat there for the winter though....and in Stamford for the summer.

nickyt7,
I am in Brightwaters Canal, there seem to have been available slips this year, prices are reasonable for residents, not sure about non-residents. Nice wide canal, water but no electric. Parking can be an issue but not too bad.
Call the Village office for details.
Good luck.

Of course it's a different body of water, but Great Peconic Bay Marina in S. Jamesport has an opening or two. http://www.greatpeconicbaymarina.com/

Nickyt7,

I mentioned recently that Dockside 500 was recently purchased by Vining Corp. and as such it seems that is the reason for certain "irregularities/ confusion"in dealing with them. Fellow C-25 ers have expressed concern about having their boats stored on the dry without a contract having been sent, "like how much are we being charged for storing our boats" said Alan M. in a recent dockside conversation. In the past we were sent a piece of paper with particulars re. the winter storage plan and charges. I must have missed it, or thinking that it will work itself out once the new owners got their thinking up to speed.

It's a great marina and worth a visit to the new owners in person to see what's doing.

Gotta go, baseball game ( snowflake series )

Val,

I went down to "Dockside/Sunset," it is a nice place. I spoke to Steve and he gave me the general 2008 yearly prices. I'll be calling him this Monday 10/15/07 to secure a slip for 2008. I look forward to the new home and hopefully I will see you around. Thanks for the insight.

Regards,
Nick

Nick, My bill of goods for the '08 season arrived yesterday, and usually I just accept it and be done with it, but dealing with a new management makes me want to send a fax of the statement to my lawyer. It will pass ( the paranoia ), everyone seems to be accepting the change, so why not me.

Looking forward to next season and hoping to be in touch with you.

Pete - If you are keeping your boat in Peconic Bay, look into Great Peconic Bay Marina. They aren't cheap, but the place is in great shape, it's family owned/operated, they are realy super people and they welcome small sailboats - which is becoming less common place out east. Of course they aren't walking distance to Legends!

Any place to tie up for free (I'm cheap) near Legends. The piers across the street look like they are in bad shape. Plus we spoke to the restaurant owner and was told it was not a good idea to dock there. Bad feelings between the two of them.
The Admiral and I would love to sail over and have lunch/dinner at Legends.

PS Walk to the Bayview. good food

Ed, you are right, the whole New Suffolk 'water front' (and I'm using the term loosely) is in pretty sad shape. Matt-A-Mar runs a mooring operation over there...only other choice is to drop the hook and take a dinghy in...Bayview is fun though!

I almost bought a '77 Catalina 27 from Mat-A-Mar. Ended up being donated to a church. I think it was going for 3 grand. I think Mat A Mar owns the waterfront property we are talking about. They really ought to fix it up.

The 27 had a four foot keel. I bump now going into my creek with my wing keel. I would really have to watch the tides had I bought it.

Looks like the Lobster Inn will be around for another year. (I hope) So far he has not sold and that means I'll have a slip next year. I spoke to Dockside 500 and they had about 5 slips available when I spoke to them. However two of them I would not put my boat in unless it was my last resort.
