Over the past several years of sailing with my C-25 I have always kept my eye out for others with the same love for this boat. I have looked for clubs or organizations in the area I sail in. On the whole there have been NONE. There is one group to the north near Seattle, an all catalina Org but thats four of five hours north. All of their events and meeting places are not convieniant for myself or others who sail Tacoma or south. After the past few months of sailing I have found I enjoy myself better when there is another Catalina to either sail with or share the evening. This summer I have spent a weekend with Doug and his family (Noeta) at Docton on Vashon Island and have rafted up for two evenings with John and Tatiana (Ali Paroosa) at Penrose state park and McMicken Island. On both occations it was wonderful to share experiances. I would like to propose the formation of a sailing group for South Sound. C-25 & C-250s . I would be interested in any and all feed back in regards to any already formed club or input on who would like to join in a new one. I know there are lots of Catalinas in the south sound and I would like to get them interested in this endeavor. My wife has volunteered to do a news letter and I would be glad to organize the group. If you read this post and have so far been just a visitor please contact me. There are a lot of wonderful people and boats out there, lets have some fun. Cruising, racing, or just socializing. Send me an E mail if you would enjoy these types of events. If your remotely interested let me know. No fee no dues just as free as the wind we love.

Doug, I would be very interested in starting something fo 25/250's in the South Sound. I moore mine at Des Moines and I know there are least five other Catalina 25's there. I also belong to CATSS they have a monthly cruise to a South Sound destination monthly. IT is primarily attended by the larger Catalina's. It would be a lot of fun to start something, I'd be happy to help.
This has been my delema: CATSS would have been fine but I agree they are mostly larger boats. I would also like a group that did NOT have their meetings during the week. I have worked on 2nd shift for over 14 years. I would love to attend meetings on the weekend or have the meeting the same time as a rally. Im going to see how much respose I get and go from there. Association members or just quiet reader none members would all be welcome. I would like to keep it free.
I think we might be able to use this forum to pull something together. If we just start a thread called "South Sound" or something. Everytime we post something to the thread it would pop up and we'd all know where to go. The main thing would be to get more people on board. Maybe we could put some cards on marina notice boards as we sail around to let people know where to find us. That way we would get to know other South Sounders as well as bring new people to the National association. Think I'll try it out now...
<font face='Comic Sans MS'><font size=2> Douglas, Check out Gary Burner’s thread Columbia River sailors. He only got one response on the forum but at least five C25 sailors showed up at his get together at the pub. Gary is now the Captain of the latest C25/C250 Fleet to be recognized by the National Association, Fleet #94. It sounds like a loose group but Gary is sending out e-mails and making the club a one design fleet in local races and seems to be bringing the Fleet together. Ed Jakubas sent them a certification and has recognized them and sent the Captain a C25/C250 Burgee (we don’t have Fleet Burgees but you could make your own). Like the story you sent in and the Odyssey trip, your Fleet will be featured in the Mainsheet in the “Fleet News” section. Of course it’s up to you to keep the Fleet together and growing but the Assoc. (Ed - I hope I'm speaking out of turn here) will at least make your presence known, and help in any way possible. Looks to me like this thing is going to grow. Any local readers who would enjoy the prospect of getting together with other sailors in our region please send along E mail or post. I know quite a few people who read this site but never post please let us know your there and Ill provide info as this progresses. You may use my E mail if you dont wish to post. dgyoung50@msn.com
Doug: We now have 9 boats loosely affiliated with our little group on the Columbia. At least 4 of us are committed to a one design regatta this weekend. No dues, no biggie, but it's been fun making contact with other racers, newbies, cruisers, etc. who share the same boat.
Good luck getting a group together; wish you well....
John: Haven't yet seen the burgee or the certificate.
If everyone would please send me your snail mail address so I can post a flyer to you. I would also like Boat names, hull numbers and all other prtinant data. I think this is going to be a lot of fun. Five so far and I know there are lots more catalina 25 @ 250s out there. dgyoung50@msn.com
