I have a 2005 250 wing keel, and the cockpit lazarettes are always full of water. Has anyone had this problem? Is there a way to drill a hole so the water will drain?
My '97 has the same problem, I've been deliberating on how to fix it, but drilling holes doesn't seem like an option. Holes in the cockpit lockers would have to drain somewhere other than directly off the boat, which pretty much means the bilge. I suppose you could plumb drain lines between the cockpit bulkhead and the interior of the lockers, but that seems prone to leakage to me. So far the only time I've seen water in my bilge is when I put it there to test my pump, I'd like to keep it that way. I'd rather keep water out of the lockers in the first place.
I've been thinking closed cell foam gaskets to fill in around the insides of the lids where they don't quite make contact with the rims of the lockers. I'm open to other ideas that don't involve drilling.
Has anyone solved this problem? We keep mostly water proof stuff like footpumps, fenders, winch handle, etc. in them but would still like to keep them dry.
They're on the lids at the point they contact the rims. Frankly, I haven't given them much thought but I think they're about 1/4" x 1" foam. The kind of stuff you'd buy to insulate your old rickety windows in a 70 year old house..... Sure why'd ya have to make me think of that project!!!!
I have an 03 and had leaking as well. Per past members help, I went to home depot and got the thickest foam they had and removed the old stuff and put on the new stuff on the lids. Now no more leaking. yeah. Good luck.
