Anyone have experience with re-finishing thier teak w/ Deks Ojle? It sounds like a good happy medium between varnish and oil. At any rate, I already ordered it, so I'm committed now!

I used it for years, it smells bad, works great. Do not use it inside. I like lemon oil inside anyway.

Very dark stuff. I'd personally look at a comparitive product like Waterlox or Cetol (or west marines version of cetol) IMO they are a bit more realistic when it comes to the oiled teak color in a varinshlike product.

I used it a long time ago on our C22. In the Texas heat & humidity it would mildew in a month. I hated it.

In the late 70's and early 80's it weas all I would use. I loved it. I used it in Puerto Rico and New Orleans. We finally drifted away from it because my wife didn't lilke the way it darkens the wood. Still, to me it was the easiest method I've ever seen for preserving wood. I built a small bench of untreated pine and sat it outside my garage in New Orleans. Treated it with Deks olje then re-treated it about every 6 months and it sat there for 4 years --till I sold the house--with no problems. The best thing about it to me was the re-treatment process. Hose it off, let it dry, slap on a coat or two. Dead simple easy, but you got to like dark wood.

While I'd prefer a lighter wood color, I'd rather go a bit dark than the orange hue of the Cetol. So I'm ok w/ it. And since I've learned enough about myself when it comes to boat maintenance to know I'm never going to make the effort to oil my teak every month, I'd prefer the dark wood to gray any day!

Cetol Natural Teak has a light yellow tint instead of their standard orange. I have no experience with Deks, but know somebody who wished they'd never used it...
